Erbium laser treatment achieves dramatic improvement in the appearance of skin with minimal downtime. The procedure removes surface-pigmentation and mild to moderate fine lines and wrinkles on the face, hands, neck and chest.
What is it?
The high-powered erbium:YAG (Er:YAG) laser produces energy in a wavelength that gently penetrates the skin, is readily absorbed by water, and scatters the heat effects of the laser light. This allows removal of thin layers of aged and sun-damaged skin tissue with detailed precision while protecting healthy surrounding tissue. This gentle treatment stimulates skin cell turnover and promotes the formation of collagen and elastin fibers that will strengthen the skin.
How does it work?
The erbium laser light is absorbed by the water in skin cells. The absorption causes the instantaneous vaporization of the cell. After the damaged skin is removed, new skin quickly re-grows in its place. The erbium:YAG does not produce as much heat and penetrates only about 20 percent as deeply as CO2 lasers. Recovery time varies with the intensity of treatment: some superficial procedures typically heal in three days, whereas deeper procedures may require up to ten days for healing.
Where is it used?
This treatment can be used to address a wide variety of needs, including: softening of fine lines and wrinkles, minimizing the effects of sun damage, reducing acne scarring, reduction of pore size, and overall smoothing of skin tone and texture.
